Goals
- To Maintain an association of persons interested in books and libraries.
- To assist the library in developing programs to meet current community needs.
- To assist in promoting knowledge of and participation in library programs.
- To aid in providing funds to meet special library needs.
- To provide a channel for individuals and organizations to express ideas and make suggestions for library use and services.
- To stimulate gifts of books, magazines, desirable collections, endowments, and bequests
Donations
The Friends of the Ocean Pines Library recently purchased a plaque to honor donations made in memory of a family member or friend.
The Friends organization will add an inscribed plate for each individual in whose name memorial donations are made. Checks should be made payable to: Friends of the Ocean Pines Library. Please enclose a note clarifying in whose memory the donation is being made.
**We appreciate all book, DVD, and CD donations, which are vital to funding the library. Keep in mind we no longer accept sets of encyclopedias or large dictionaries, and please inspect your donations ahead of time to ensure no materials are torn, stained, or moldy. Thank you!**
How to Purchase FOPL Book Sales Online
Simply type “foplbooksales@amazon.com” into Google, and then selectfoplbooksales@amazon.com (it should be the first entry), and that will take you to our full inventory. If you’re looking for a specific title, enter that into the FOPL Book Sales search bar at the top of the page. An important note: The Amazon Smile program, which supports charitable organizations, ensure an additional 0.5 percent of all purchases goes back to the Friends’ fundraising efforts. It all adds up. We appreciate your support!
Volunteer Opportunities
The Friends of the Ocean Pines Library sponsors several volunteer programs that are of vital importance to the library. We could use your help if you have a couple of hours a week to spare. We invite you to join us.
- Shelving - Get in touch with your inner Dewey. Shelve returned books and other library items.
Time commitment: 2 hours weekly. Comprehensive training provided. - Telephoning Patrons - Call patrons to let them know their requested items are in and available for pick-up.
Time commitment: 1.5 to 2 hours weekly. - Backroom Gang - Sort and store donated books in preparation for our annual book sale.
Time commitment: 2 hours weekly. - Annual Book Fair - work as a rover, checker, or cashier. Help set up and take down.
Time commitment: 2+ hours the last weekend in July (Friday, Saturday or Monday) - Publicity - To write articles, to include pictures, about FOPL activities for submission to local newspapers.
Time commitment: As needed. - Programs - To find interesting speakers for FOPL membership meetings twice a year.
Time commitment: As needed. - Board Member - Officers for the FOPL change every two years; this requires attending an FOPL board meeting once a month, except August.
