Our Mission
The mission of the Worcester County Library is to promote reading, thinking, learning, and the enjoyment of the arts.
Our Vision
The Library serves as the community’s learning center where the pursuit of knowledge, the exploration of the arts, and positive interactions are encouraged through innovative educational and cultural opportunities for all.
Library History
The Worcester County Library has officially existed since 1959, when libraries in the four incorporated towns - Pocomoke City, Snow Hill, Berlin and Ocean City - were united in one system. In 1999 a new branch library was opened in Ocean Pines, and in 2004 the Pocomoke branch was expanded and renovated. In 2008 the Ocean City branch library was replaced with a new building on Coastal Highway and 100th Street. In 2018 a new Berlin library facility opened on Harrison Avenue.
The library is a member of a consortium with the Eastern Shore Regional Library and its member libraries. The consortium was formed to share the cost and use of an automated library management system.
The Library Board of Trustees is composed of seven members representing the various geographical areas of the county. The Board meets monthly on the second Tuesday except July and August to form policy, advise the director and approve the library's budget. Board meetings are open to the public.
