Free Chromebook Distribution for Eligible Households

In partnership with Worcester County Government and University of Maryland Extension, Worcester County Library is excited to announce that free Chromebooks are available to distribute to qualified households. These Chromebooks have been provided by the Connected Devices (MD-CDP) grant program from the Maryland State Department of Housing and Community Development. Access to technology is one key to achieving economic freedom and accessing important educational opportunities. The MD-CDP grant program is designed to assist in Maryland’s digital equity and inclusion efforts.

Households are limited to one device per address.

How to Qualify & What to Bring

Households must demonstrate their eligibility by providing the following:

Documentation from a government source of current household income below 200% of the federal poverty level (relative to household size).

OR

Proof of current enrollment or participation in approved government assistance programs, such as:

  • Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP)
  • Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), formerly known as Food Stamps
  • Medicaid
  • Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC)
  • Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
  • Federal Public Housing Assistance (FPHA)
  • Veterans Pension and Survivors Benefit
  • Free and reduced-price school lunch program or school breakfast program, including at U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Community Eligibility Provision schools
  • Federal Pell Grant in the current award year

AND

  • Proof of identity
  • Proof of address. Examples include: Maryland voter’s registration card; rental receipt, lease or deed; postmarked official mail (e.g., utility bill); vehicle registration; county tax bill with correct address; current pay stub.

    • Saturday, May 11 from 9:30 - 11: 30 am
    • Wednesday, May 22 from 4 - 6:30 pm
    • Wednesday, May 29 from 1 - 4 pm

Devices are funded through a grant from the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development. Through the Maryland Connected Devices Program efforts will continue to decrease the digital divide and increase digital literacy in the Worcester County community.
