Preventing Diabetes in Worcester County

The Worcester County Health Department was awarded a grant from CareFirst Blue Cross Blue Shield to launch a robust diabetes prevention program for our community.  The Health Department is bringing organizations from around the County to offer programs relating to nutrition and wellness, cooking demonstrations, and walking groups.  Programs will be offered at the branch libraries and other partner locations.

"Eat Healthy, Eat Local, and Live Well"  Resource Guide - This guide will help readers locate and access fresh, nutritious, high-quality foods in Worcester County.

Just Walk Worcester - Just Walk Worcester is a program offered by the Worcester County (MD) Health Department to encourage residents and visitors to explore the tremendous opportunities to walk, stroll and hike across the county. It is one of a number of Prevention Programs that promote healthy practices to support a happy and healthy lifestyle.

Worcester County Health Department Nutritionist Kelly Williams presents a new dish usually the first Friday of each Month.  Youtube channel can be accessed HERE.

Farm to Library: Free Cooking Demonstrations & Health Screenings

Visit your library to see healthy eating demonstration & samples, featuring in-season ingredients. The Worcester County Health Department is also providing free health screenings, including weight/body composition, blood pressure, Pre-Diabetes Risk Test, and general health education.

Lifestyle Balance Diabetes Prevention Classes - April 14, 2022 - April 20, 2023 (pre-registration required)

The Program is designed to help YOU: Prevent or delay the onset of type 2 diabetes and other chronic diseases; eat healthier, move more, and lose weight; reduce the risk of heart disease and stroke - and so much more at no cost to you! Participants must have a diagnosis of pre-diabetes or a history of gestational diabetes. For more information or to register, call 410-632-1100 Ext. 1108. Pre-Registration is required.
